Japandi House : New Build

The architectural plans, along with the owner’s Japanese heritage spoke volumes in terms of their brief. They presented a couple of key words, including ‘timber’, ‘minimalist’, ‘organic’ and the owner had put together a mood board of soft furnishings and some finishes she liked.

An important part of the brief was that downstairs was for the family and upstairs was for the adults. The first floor was to be a more sophisticated, dark and moody space, with a touch of Lux. The living spaces had to be practical for a growing family and have utility and purpose.

The scope of works included the design for:

• The Genkan – a collaborative effort with Alex Urena (Building designer) and Jason Miles (the builder).

• Staircase

• All joinery

• Master suite

• Study

• Kitchen  and Pantry

• Laundry

• Bathrooms

• Living room

• Lighting plan and selections

• Window furnishings

There isn’t a part of this home that  doesn’t make you ‘feel’. Each space has its own story as to how it was developed to be, but there is a flow that is pure, simple and restrained throughout the entirety of the home.
